Helen Shapiro grabó originalmente la canción, pero Lesley Gore la popularizo en 1963. El tema llegó al #1 del Billboard Hot 100 y se convirtió en la 14 canción más exitosa de todo ese año. En Reino Unido llegó al puesto 9. La canción retrata la melancolía de una chica que ha sido engañada por su novio en su propia fiesta de cumpleaños. Lesley Gore nació en Nueva York el 2 de mayo de 1946 y falleció el 16 de febrero del 2015 en esa misma ciudad. Su carrera se extendió desde los años 60shasta sus últimos días de vida. Además de cantante destacó como actriz, compositora e incluso presentadora de televisión. "It's My Party" fue nominada a un premio Grammy por grabación de rock and roll.
